Pepsi
& Pepsin
The
"Pepsi" and "Cola" parts of Pepsi-Cola come from the pepsin and the
cola nuts that were used as ingredients in the orginal soft drink.

Pepsin was a popular ingredient in early soft drinks and chewing
gum. In fact, one of Pepsi-Cola's earliest known advertisements
in
1903 included that Pepsi-Cola "Aids Digestion," an acceptable claim for
a soft drink that contained pepsin. By 1923, the Pepsi-Cola
Company no longer used pepsin as an ingredient (The History of
Pepsi-Cola 2000).
